My guesthouse in Horezu. |
And it occurred to me that only 50 km from here starts Transalpina route, one of 2 most famous (together with Transfăgărăşan) road that go across the mountains here. So without hesitation, (and trying not to remember that I spent 2 hours trying to catch some car on Transfăgărăşan road....) I started hitchhiking in that direction. I didn't dedicate a single minute for sightseeing in Horezu, and it is possible that I lost something interesting, as Horezu, apart from being a popular touristic resort is also famous for manufacture of pottery, with a characteristic rooster
I don't know what happened but it was really hard to hitchhike that day. First, about 30 min just to get out from Horezu. Later, a little bit faster, to get to Novaci, a village that is at the beggining of the Transalpina.
It was a real event for me, because for the first time after almost 4 weeks in Romania finally I had a ride with Dacia 1310. It is really hard to catch this car, because in 99% percent of cases, there are either 5 passangers inside, or 2 but with a set of furniture for the living room, so that simply there is no more space for a hitchhiker. And I was even more lucky, because on the distance of only 10 km .... we got a puncture :)
Market in Novaci |
Ok, but back to Novaci. Every Sunday there is a market organised. You can buy there absolutely everything - food, clothes, animals, tools, or a bottle of Ţuică, as I did.
After a short break I went back on the road. Once again patience was necessary. After 45 min I got to the next village, Rânca, a typical ski resort, a little bit desolate at this time of the year.
Rânca |
And another hour of fruitless waving at the passing cars. But finally some couple from Sebes, as I remember, took me with them to the main part of Transalpina.
So hard to take photos from the car.... |
'Hells Angels' from Sebes |
The views from there were... exactly the same as the previous day :) The only difference was that new asphalt road, full of other cars. The fragment with new asphalt was about 70-80 km long |
I spent with them very pleasant 45 min. But then I had to get out of the car. And I was still in the middle of nothing, 70 km from the main road to Bucharest. So another 1h waiting.....
... And another nice couple gave me a hand. I even took a nap in their car. And when I got to the road to the Bucharest I believed that now it will be easy. But not, I was waiting 30 min once again.... and the sunset was closer and closer. Maybe because I forgot to take my straw hat to look more weird. But finally I was taken by a nice girl in VW Touareg (yes, typical car that always picks up hitchhikers...) straight to the campus.
Road to Bucharest. The colours leave no doubt, it's autumn already.... |
Well, according to the statistics, in Romania, there are as many Dacias as VW Touareg....
That is a very nice aspect of hitchhiking, that you are racing not with the time, but with the sun. It is such a primordial feeling. And I won once again.
Piękne góry... i piękne bazary.
